Your questions about Patwa, art, and WeirTings answered.
WeirTings comes from the Jamaican saying “Wi weird tings,” a playful phrase that celebrates creativity and difference. It’s Kareen Weir’s way of honouring the bold spirit of Jamaican language and turning it into art.
Kareen Weir is a Jamaican-Canadian visual artist and designer based in Toronto. Through WeirTings, she uses Jamaican Patwa and Afro-diasporic narratives to amplify Black identity and empowerment.
Patwa is more than language — it’s heritage, humour, and resistance. By centering Patwa in her art, Kareen preserves the Jamaican voice that colonial histories tried to silence.
Her murals can be found across Toronto at the NIA Centre for the Arts, Womxn Paint projects, and community spaces. Follow @weirtings on Instagram for updates and exhibition news.
The first limited merch drop arrives in 2025. Join the waitlist on the Merch page to be the first to get notified.
