Project Details

The artwork traverses the artist's experience as a recent Black female immigrant from Jamaica.

The mixed-media piece utilizes video footage showcasing a soliloquy on her culture shock within a white caricatured canvas to portray a mirror of the visual landscape of the artist's life and experiences thus far in Canada.

Through this work the artist voices her private reflections, revealing observations about the connectivity, or lack thereof, among Black communities in Canadian society, as well as the shift in her perceptions of Black identity and its conceptualization in Canada and beyond.
